Spaces of Resistance
is an illustrated animated explainer video about transnational feminism in Scandinavia,
Russia, and Turkey. For an international team of female scientists at the University of Gothenburg, we developed this project to make the results of the research project Feminism and LGBTI+ Activism in Russia, Scandinavia, and Turkey: Transnationalizing Spaces of Resistance accessible to a wider audience. In this project, lecturers Olga Sasunkevich, Mia Liinason, and Selin Çağatay accompanied feminist and queer activists from different
countries over three years and analyzed their similarities.

About the process
Since this project was based on the paper “Transnationalizing Spaces of Resistance", the first challenge was to adapt the academic text to a 3-minute script appropriate to a general audience. Based on that, we built a storyboard that showed our visual ideas for each scene outlined in the script. After this was approved, the final illustrations were created by Eva and animated by Soner.
